Learn From Your Mistakes
When I start to get tired on the court, I notice that I begin repeating the same errors. My instinct is to get frustrated and continuing to make those same errors, but with a greater vigor. "Maybe if I just try harder, but don't actually do anything different, the outcome will improve," I wishfully think.
What actually helps is the following:
-
Offer myself a little self compassion for feeling tired.
-
Non judgmentally describe the error.
-
Mentally reverse-engineer a possible fix. (It usually involves preparing sooner, or concentrating more on the ball.)
-
Then try to relax and lose myself in the flow (and fun) of the game.
Mistakes are only mistakes if you fail to learn something from them.
Spiritual Application
[A Book of Mormon story about a Nephite military captain who saw a pattern in how they were being attacked and planned a successful counter attack.]
