Learn From Your Mistakes

When I start to get tired on the court, I notice that I begin repeating the same errors. My instinct is to get frustrated and continuing to make those same errors, but with a greater vigor. "Maybe if I just try harder, but don't actually do anything different, the outcome will improve," I wishfully think.

What actually helps is the following:

  1. Offer myself a little self compassion for feeling tired.

  2. Non judgmentally describe the error.

  3. Mentally reverse-engineer a possible fix. (It usually involves preparing sooner, or concentrating more on the ball.)

  4. Then try to relax and lose myself in the flow (and fun) of the game.

Mistakes are only mistakes if you fail to learn something from them.
